NEWARK 'RANSOME & MARLES' AIR RAID REMEMBERED
Newark Air Museum - Postcode: NG24 2NY (East Midlands)
The museum events team is making arrangements for a one day event on Sunday 6th March 2016, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Luftwaffe attack on the Ransome & Marles bearing factory in Newark-on-Trent, which took place on 7th March 1941.

This commemoration is a joint venture between the museum and the NFS and AFS Vehicles Group; and hopefully Newark Town Hall, Newark Cemetery, NSK (TBC) and other likeminded organisations.

This will be part of the weekend of commemorative events, starting at 1:30pm on the Saturday outside the Town Hall with the reading of the names of the 41 people killed, and culminating at the Cemetery on the Monday where 30 of the 41 are buried. The museum will also be remembering 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire, the Rolls-Royce Merlin engines of this iconic fighter used bearings from Ransome & Marles.

The main event at the museum will be a major Air Raid demonstration organised by the NFS and AFS Vehicles Group, who are well-known in 1940s circles for their realistic demonstrations at Woodhall Spa, Rufford, and the Newark Fire Show. The demonstration will start at 1:25pm, the actual time of the air raid 75 years ago, and the events in the aftermath of this will run all afternoon

Re-enactors wanted to take part, particularly those portraying factory workers (the more the better), ARP, Rescue, Police, Fire Service, WVS, Ambulance, Home Guard and British Army.

Dad`s Army Vicar Frank Williams invites you to join him for a hilarious afternoon/evening of TV nostalgia.
Everybody loves Dad’s Army. Even after 50 years it continues to pull huge viewing figures becoming one of the all-time classic ‘greats’ of television, also enjoying West-End success, a Royal Variety Performance, a national tour, a themed cruise and now the new feature film in which Frank returns as the vicar. David Croft and Jimmy Perry chose Frank to create the role of the wonderfully eccentric vicar who was always slightly tetchy as he tried to come to terms with the elderly platoon’s invasion of his beloved church hall. Join Frank as he celebrates a lifetime on Stage, TV, Film and the legendary BBCTV series. In an entertaining trip down memory lane, Frank gives a unique glimpse behind the scenes and stories of the celebrated TV & Film casts of Dad`s Army & a host of other TV classics such as Emergency Ward 10; All Gas & Gaiters; Morecambe & Wise; The Two Ronnie’s and many more. Frank is interviewed by author & entertainer Chris Gidney in a lively afternoon/evening of television nostalgia which includes Franks rarely seen home movie of the Dads Army cast on tour, and Frank will sign copies of his best-selling autobiography, Vicar to Dad`s Army.
“He tells of his craft with an infectious geniality.”

MIDDY IN THE WAR YEARS
Mid-Suffolk Light Railway - Postcode: IP14 5PW (East of England)
The railways played an important role in wartime Britain, and the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway was no exception as it not only served local communities but two local American air bases with supplies and munitions. Featuring wartime displays, reenactment demonstrations and military vehicles, Middy in the War Years has become a key part of the 1940’s calendar in Mid-Suffolk with this year’s event being held over the early May bank holiday May 1st and 2nd.

This year’s event will see a range of displays for visitors to enjoy such as military encampments, battle scenes as well as a number of displays dedicated to how people lived their lives back on the home front. This year also welcomes back the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight who will be providing the event with a Dakota on Sunday 2nd May.

As well as unlimited rides on the train pulled by steam, there are refreshments available from our well stocked tea room and real ale bar and once again the neighbouring 34th Bomb Group Museum will also be open over the weekend with lots of historic artefacts on display.
For more details about this event, prices and directions, please see the event website.

ADVINTAGEOUS POP-UP VINTAGE FAIR
BATLEY MARKET SQUARE - Postcode: WF17 5DA (Yorkshire and the Humber)
The AdVintageous Team are delighted to have been invited back to provide the Vintage Stalls in Batley Market Square (outdoor event) for its 3rd year and we will be adding more stalls to the previous 30 strong vintage stallholders. It was a day the like of which Batley had never seen before, well not since the 1940s at least. On 30 May, 2015 the clock was rolled back, as were the decades and the vintage years came back to town. And what a fantastic day it was. The weather was certainly kind and the sun kept shining all day long. With a footfall estimated at around 10,000 people for the day, the town centre was packed with people and full of things to see and do. Lots of people came along in vintage dress which added to the atmosphere.

There will be musical entertainment on the main stage and the crowds will be treated to music from across the decades from the 1920s through until late 1950s rock 'n' roll. Vintage vehicles will hot foot it into town again from 1920s roadsters, military vehicles, 1950s American muscle cars and many many more.

The Vintage DJs will set themselves up in the NAAFI tent and dance area where you can have a boogie, grab a nice cup of tea and a slab of cake! There will be a host of activities throughout the day and we can definitely say it was a day to remember so don't forget to put that in your diary!

LOST SPIVS CASE
My name is Dan Hyndman from Nottingham. I am in the throws of preparing all my kit for the new 1940s season, when I have discovered that I have apparently lost my Spivs Case. It is brown in colour the usual type of pressed cardboard with 2 metal latch type fasteners its about 16" long about 12 " inches wide & about 5 inches thick, the main thing inside it was some magicians tricks, (i used to be a Close up magician) a period 1940s ladies pink Corset & other 40s gear, I do quite a few Characters, so cannot remember the last time I used it, it is a nice quality dark brown case, not the normal cheap type of the 40s, I think I had it at Cosby in Leicestershire, but not sure. £25 reward. Can any one help me to get it back. 07973 722275 or 01949 829346 email hyndman999@btinternet.com
