LOST SPIVS CASE
My name is Dan Hyndman from Nottingham. I am in the throws of preparing all my kit for the new 1940s season, when I have discovered that I have apparently lost my Spivs Case. It is brown in colour the usual type of pressed cardboard with 2 metal latch type fasteners its about 16" long about 12 " inches wide & about 5 inches thick, the main thing inside it was some magicians tricks, (i used to be a Close up magician) a period 1940s ladies pink Corset & other 40s gear, I do quite a few Characters, so cannot remember the last time I used it, it is a nice quality dark brown case, not the normal cheap type of the 40s, I think I had it at Cosby in Leicestershire, but not sure. £25 reward. Can any one help me to get it back. 07973 722275 or 01949 829346 email hyndman999@btinternet.com

RAILWAY AT WAR
Saturday - August 02 - 2014
Mid-Norfolk Railway, Dereham Station, Dereham, Norfolk - Postcode: NR19 1DE (East of England)
This event will run over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd August 2014.
The aim this year is to improve on previous years and to overcome some of the criticisms the previous events produced.
So, the format for this year will be as follows with details of what will happen down the line:
Dereham Station will remain as the main focal point for boarding trains, catering and shop. In addition there will be a display of vehicles in the main car park, stalls will be spread around the station selling varied items mainly with a military theme but also period clothing and art works depicting the war periods. The catering department will be providing food from WW2 including spam sandwiches, fritters etc.
At some point during the day (the time will be on display at the ticket office) there will be a mock skirmish held on platform 1. This will include the use of weapons with blank ammunition etc. Don’t miss this as it will be the highlight of the day.
Yaxham Station will be set in Allied France and will be a station occupied by the French Resistance. Here you will be able to mix with the French peasants and learn how to blow up a train. Additionally, the Yaxham Light Railway will be operating and you will have the opportunity to drive one of their engines for a £fiver. They will also be serving up some French snacks for your enjoyment.
Kimberley Park Station will be in occupied France and here you will be met by the German Military Police who will be manning a check point. There will be an armoured car and motor bike on display and you will have an opportunity to view the weapons that they carry, be careful or you might get interned for the duration!
Wymondham Station will be host to the larger Military vehicles and a living camp for the weekend. You will be able to walk round and see how the troops would have been accommodated whilst on active service.
On your journey you are advised to have your ID card available as the authorities will be looking for a SPY on board the train, and do not forget your gas mask!
Next years event will take place on 1st & 2nd August 2015. www.mnr.org.uk

Historic wartime road vehicles will be on show and on the move, mingling with a range of vintage trams which visitors will be able to ride on as often as they like. Some trams will have blackout masks fitted along with anti-blast netting on the windows, blue coloured lamps and white steps. VILLAGE AT WAR WEEKEND
Saturday - September 13 - 2014
Stoke Bruerne - Postcode: NN12 7SE (East Midlands)
For the seventh successive year, The Friends of The Canal Museum at Stoke Bruerne are staging their highly successful Village at War weekend on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th September.
During WWII the canal at Stoke Bruerne played an important role in the transportation of coal from the pits in the Midlands to service the London area. Story has it that part of our Gold Reserve was shipped from the Bank of England to Liverpool by canal during the invasion scare of 1940, while the narrowboat Sculptor, berthed outside the Museum, was used as a fire boat in London during the Blitz.
During the weekend, the Northampton Home Guard, originally called the Local Defence Volunteers, will be ‘On Parade’ along with the Army Cadet Force and other re-eactment groups from all around the country. George Formby aka Paul Casper and Lola Lamour will be entertaining. The village school will be transformed into ‘Lyons Tea Rooms’, Alan ‘Ruzzit Buzzit’ will be hosting dance classes and a Tea Dance at the village hall and there will be a 40s fashion parade at the Church. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be calling in (weather permitting) and all sorts of military vehicles will be on display.
There will be a black market and a welcome newcomer to the weekend is beauty and fashion writer and all-round domestic goddess Marjorie Cartwright-Jones presenting her make-do-and-mend cabaret show.

LIFE ON THE HOLME FRONT
Saturday - October 04 - 2014
Holme Village - Postcode: PE7 3PA (East of England)
Held on Sat & Sunday 4th & 5th October 2014 10.am - 4.00pm.
Life On The Holme Front
Holme 1940’s Weekend. In association with Holmewood Hall
4th and 5th October 2014 10.am-4.00pm Daily
Free Event Entry with ample parking- for which a charge of £2.00 per vehicle is payable.
This includes a programme.
Life on the Holme came into this “world” through a conversation over a beer! (as mad ideas always do) and from then on this wonderful event held within the local Village of Holme Cambridgeshire has risen to be one of the most popular events in the calendar.
It is particularly special to this village as during WWll the Operations Special Services were based at Holmewood Hall and over 200 men were billeted in what is affectionately known as the Camp (now domestic housing) the service men played a significant role in packing airborne containers which were parachuted into occupied Europe. Area H as it was labelled was a top secret location and operations centre and is noted for being the first joint British and American operation. Little was known of the activities until the lifting of the 50 year information ban. We recently had a visit from the 457th Bomb Group who were based at Glatton, just 4 miles away and the veterans there had no idea that Holmewood Hall existed or of the activities taking place and as such we are still learning each day!!
So with the village celebrating its history during this period with the involvement of the Land, Sea and Air operation as well as the local Agricultural history it is the perfect backdrop for this wonderful event.
With re-enactor’s transporting this beautiful sleepy village in the Cambridgeshire fens back in time to the 1940’s, the military life, living displays, and the wonderful 1940’s costumes that a lot of visitors love to wear, it truly is a wonderful event to come and see either one day or both as it is a really affordable event for all the family.
Visitors can meander around the village and see the display’s vehicles and stalls all around the village and interspersed in the village, on the field and driveways and can then wander up to Holmewood Hall where again there are camps all the way along the drive and then throughout the beautiful grounds where there are more stall and exhibitions including more wonderful Vintage Cars, and hopefully this year a single gauge railway. Visitors can then take the opportunity to visit the Hall itself which hosts history exhibitions, Home front living displays and many other exhibitors and also enjoy the Vintage Tea rooms which serves traditional recipe cakes and refreshment’s with a few modern options available as well.
There will also be, on both days, a free Tea Dance in the Village hall between 1.00pm and 3pm. and on the Saturday evening the very popular Dance which this year is the 457th Fireball Dance, the tickets for the dance are very limited and are available now!
The organisers of this event give their time freely and with such enthusiasm and hopefully we will again be blessed with the “Indian” summer weather” that we have had over the past few years!

A 2 day charity event on 3nd and 3rd May 2015 in aid of SSAFA at our NEW VENUE which will have stalls, civilian and military displays, entertainment, vehicles both civilian and military. From 11.00 to 17.00 both days. We will be joined by Chamberlain, Monty, Lord Mountbatten, HRH Sir Winston Churchill and HRH King George. The weekend will be full of nostalgia, music, re-enactors and displays to remember those bygone days. 2015 6th May will be the 70th Anniversary of D Day. We will have those Yanks joining us along with our own lads making sure to keep those Germans in line. It is possible that at some point during the weekend there may be a skirmish and a flypast will be applied for later in the year. There will be food and drink supplied by the clubhouse including a possible beer festival and pig roast, and some old fashioned proper pie mash n liquor.
Whilst we encourage our German re-enactor friends please bear in mind that we would appreciate it if you don't attend in Black Allgemeine Uniforms SS and Death Skull insignia please.
