LOST SPIVS CASE
My name is Dan Hyndman from Nottingham. I am in the throws of preparing all my kit for the new 1940s season, when I have discovered that I have apparently lost my Spivs Case. It is brown in colour the usual type of pressed cardboard with 2 metal latch type fasteners its about 16" long about 12 " inches wide & about 5 inches thick, the main thing inside it was some magicians tricks, (i used to be a Close up magician) a period 1940s ladies pink Corset & other 40s gear, I do quite a few Characters, so cannot remember the last time I used it, it is a nice quality dark brown case, not the normal cheap type of the 40s, I think I had it at Cosby in Leicestershire, but not sure. £25 reward. Can any one help me to get it back. 07973 722275 or 01949 829346 email hyndman999@btinternet.com

Take a step out of modern Birmingham and come a atmospheric glimpse into the lives of the ordinary people who helped make Birmingham an extraordinary city.

Take a fascinating guided tour, step back in time at Birmingham's last surviving court of back to backs, houses built literally back-to-back around a communal courtyard.

Re-live the war years in Birmingham with some special stories of brummies during the war, craft demonstrations, live music, re-enactors in uniform & our very own WVS canteen. Plus the rare opportunity to visit a real air raid shelter in our cellars. Don't forget you can get you sweet rations from the 1930's sweetshop!

Our property is by guided tour. Booking onto a guided tour is essential. Normal admission fees apply. Our houses have 8 flights of steep, narrow stairs. If you may require a ground floor tour ask when you call to book on 0121 666 7671

THE 1940S RELIVED - FROM THE HOME FRONT TO THE FRONT LINE
Saturday - May 17 - 2014
Brooklands Museum - Postcode: KT13 0QN (South East England)
Grab your uniform or vintage dress - it’s the 1940s again!

This is a chance to put your hair up, grab your best period outfit and lace up the dance shoes.

You could head down to our street party, where you will be able to refresh yourself with some food and drink, take part in a dance lesson, or put your Jive, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop into practice. Over at the trade stalls you will be able to update your vintage wardrobe, but beware of some shady characters such as Spivs trying to sell you black market goods.

Around the site you will find all sorts of unusual activity, as we welcome re-enactors representing civilians and military personal from the Home to the Eastern Fronts. Remember to keep your identity cards to hands as the roadblocks will be in place.

Period food and drinks will of course be available all day - just bring your ration book!

Once the evening is upon us you can take in a film or a news reel in the vintage cinema, relax in the 1930s Members’ Bar or continue dancing in the larger Bluebird Dance Hall housed inside the Art Deco Clubhouse so you can put your Jive, Jitterbug or Lindy Hop into practice.

Normal museum admission prices apply for the daytime event (£11 for adults, £10 for seniors/students, £6 for children aged 5-16 and £30 for family).

Evening tickets

WEYMOUTH AT WAR
Saturday - June 21 - 2014
Weymouth - Postcode: DT4 7AX (South West England)
To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-day the town of Weymouth is turning back the clock on the weekend of the 21st / 22nd of June 2014.

The event is being staged alongside the annual Veterans parade next year and will be taking place all across Weymouth. Called “Weymouth at War” it is being organised to coincide with the veterans parade which annually attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the area. The organisers aim to literally turn Weymouth back into a WWII town for the whole weekend and anyone visiting can take part.
You can visit a miliaria fair, dance to 1940′s music and stroll down 1940′s street. Fish and chips on the quayside as you watch the US Army gear up for D-day. The aim is to recreate the harbour much as it would have been in the days running up to D-day. With Spiv’s selling nylons – alongside “Yanks” giving out gum and chocolate.
We have the full support of the council who are delighted that we can add more to the annual Veterans Day commemorations and ceremony and what we aim to do in a big way. There are dozens of re-enactment groups already booked in and there was a general consensus that something big should be done on the south coast for the 70th anniversary of D-day. And where better to do this, than the very place the invasion was started.

If you would like to be kept informed or want some info – please just drop us an email to info@weymouthatwar.com
Dance tickets and wristbands are available for collection from our HQ in Hope Square from Friday morning onwards.

MELTHAM MEMORIES
Friday - July 04 - 2014
Meltham, Huddersfield - Postcode: HD1 4AE (Yorkshire and the Humber)
It is with delight we can confirm that the 2014 Meltham Memories Wartime Weekend will take place on the weekend of 4th, 5th and 6th of July.
Yes, the same weekend as the Tour de France passes through Huddersfield. We anticipate that there will be an increase in the number of visitors to this years event, so we hope it will be good weather!
The main day, Saturday will focus on our strengths - memorabilia, lifestyle pieces and military. Sunday will be a calmer affair, but we will still be open and active!
We are also in discussions to provide screens within the village to broadcast the wide variety of sporting events that are happening that weekend - (for those who are interested! - and it will be subtly done).
We will have dancing, plenty of local food, stalls, military re-enactors, BBM fly-past, real ale festival, music, costumes and a dressed up village.
We want this to be our best year ever. Please come along! We love the buzz in the village, and we hope, as a visitor, trader or pilot flying the spitfire, you feel welcomed to the weekend.
If you would like to book a stall - please email hashtagmeltham@hotmail.co.uk - we will take booking through that method only until Christmas.
If you would like to donate any raffle prizes etc - please call Pam 01484850269 or email us on the address above.
We can only keep the weekend going because you visit and contribute by buying tickets etc. We would love your support at a fundraiser for the event at a Murder Mystery Evening at Meltham Church Hall, this Saturday from 7:30, tickets are £6.50 - everything goes towards funding the event.

On a final note, last year we raised money for The Yorkshire Regiment. Thank you to everyone who donated, we raised just under £800. Thank you.
See you next July!

The Mid Lincs MVT (Military Vehicle Trust) is holding their 6th War Years weekend on the above date this year. We are a non profit making event so any monies raised after expenses will go to the charities, Air Ambulance, Royal British Legion and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Please visit our website below to have a look at what it’s all about, It is also to help keep people informed or you can phone 01529 488354 or 07713074418 to get further advice. We have a large marquee booked to hold a 1940’s Victory Ball for three hundred people on Saturday night with the Ashby Big Band and supported by Paul & Natasha Harper with Katie Mustang in attendance, Paul being an ENSA entertainer and all backed by Music hosts Wing & a Prayer. This is a ticket only dance. Tickets are £15. The entertainment on Friday and Sunday night is free. We will be having living history displays, Re-enactors (people promenading in all sorts of different uniforms), and a large selection of Military vehicles and Classic cars with various stall holders Military & Civilian selling their wares to keep the public entertained. We are also having an arena where we will be having a staged battle each day (can be quite noisy), Vehicle parades (Military & Classic cars), Military band playing and demonstrations involving the public. The Battle of Britain memorial flight has been applied for. We have plenty of entertainment for the children with an old fashioned funfair, Paintball Arena and some participation events for them to join in like Grenade throwing and rifle cum boot camp drill.
There is plenty of food sold on site with a NAFFI selling homemade wartime type sandwiches and cakes (unfortunately not 1940’s prices). There is also a bar selling real ales amongst other drinks to help quench your thirst. If you purchase a ticket for the Saturday night you have the chance to purchase real Ale at wartime price of 6d/pint (must produce 6 old pennies).
