MIDDY IN THE WAR YEARS
Mid-Suffolk Light Railway - Postcode: IP14 5PW (East of England)
The railways played an important role in wartime Britain, and the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway was no exception as it not only served local communities but two local American air bases with supplies and munitions. Featuring wartime displays, reenactment demonstrations and military vehicles, Middy in the War Years has become a key part of the 1940’s calendar in Mid-Suffolk with this year’s event being held over the early May bank holiday May 1st and 2nd.

This year’s event will see a range of displays for visitors to enjoy such as military encampments, battle scenes as well as a number of displays dedicated to how people lived their lives back on the home front. This year also welcomes back the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight who will be providing the event with a Dakota on Sunday 2nd May.

As well as unlimited rides on the train pulled by steam, there are refreshments available from our well stocked tea room and real ale bar and once again the neighbouring 34th Bomb Group Museum will also be open over the weekend with lots of historic artefacts on display.
For more details about this event, prices and directions, please see the event website.

Brooklands Museum - Postcode: KT13 0QN (South East England)
Join us at Brooklands Museum as we turn back the clock to the decade of fashion, commemoration, style and celebration at our annual 1940s Relived event!

This is a chance to put your hair up, grab your best period outfit and lace up the dance shoes.

Stock up on vintage gear at our extensive vintage market, featuring some of the best vintage sellers around, providing everything from hats, suits and shoes to accessories, books and original memorabilia.

Around the site you will find all the usual Museum exhibits, but you will never know what is around the next corner - you may find the Home Guard on parade or manning the Pill Box, an RAF Fighter Command Control Centre or US airborne troops carrying out demonstrations of infantry weapons and fire power.

If all this activity gets a bit much head down to the street party, which, by popular demand, is back in the marquee behind the Motoring Sheds, where you will be able to refresh yourself with some food and drink, listen to live music, take part in a dance lesson, or put your Jive, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop into practice.

ADVINTAGEOUS POP-UP VINTAGE FAIR
BATLEY MARKET SQUARE - Postcode: WF17 5DA (Yorkshire and the Humber)
The AdVintageous Team are delighted to have been invited back to provide the Vintage Stalls in Batley Market Square (outdoor event) for its 3rd year and we will be adding more stalls to the previous 30 strong vintage stallholders. It was a day the like of which Batley had never seen before, well not since the 1940s at least. On 30 May, 2015 the clock was rolled back, as were the decades and the vintage years came back to town. And what a fantastic day it was. The weather was certainly kind and the sun kept shining all day long. With a footfall estimated at around 10,000 people for the day, the town centre was packed with people and full of things to see and do. Lots of people came along in vintage dress which added to the atmosphere.

There will be musical entertainment on the main stage and the crowds will be treated to music from across the decades from the 1920s through until late 1950s rock 'n' roll. Vintage vehicles will hot foot it into town again from 1920s roadsters, military vehicles, 1950s American muscle cars and many many more.

The Vintage DJs will set themselves up in the NAAFI tent and dance area where you can have a boogie, grab a nice cup of tea and a slab of cake! There will be a host of activities throughout the day and we can definitely say it was a day to remember so don't forget to put that in your diary!

AVA WW2 DANCE & PARTY NIGHTS WITH DJ LYNNE & HOST TERRY
The Engine Shed, Steam & Moorland Garden Centre, Malton Rd, Pickering - Postcode: YO18 7JW (Yorkshire and the Humber)
PICKERING WAR-WEEKEND

DJ Lynne and Host Terry present their popular
AvA WW2 Dance & Party Nights
(formerly Wrelton Party Nights)

Friday & Saturday 14th/15th October 2016

The Engine Shed (new venue) PICKERING
Steam and Moorland Garden Centre, Malton Road, Pickering, YO18 7JW

Events commence at 7.30pm to 11.15 pm (Doors Open 6.30pm)

If you want great fun – this is definitely the place to come for GENUINE WW2 music, albeit at a new venue !

After entertaining at WW2 events in Wrelton Village Hall over the past 13 years, DJ Lynne and Host Terry are taking their popular nostalgic WW2 Dance and Party Nights - with music and fun from the War Years - to a new slightly larger venue at The Shed in Pickering, which offers excellent facilities including catering, licensed bar, lift and a disabled toilet: it is ideally located in 0close proximity to Pickering Showground.

The events will include original soundtrack reflections of selected moments from those WW2 years, but as usual the main focus will continue to be Party Fun and Dancing to your favourite music of this era that will include waltzes, foxtrots, swing, jitterbug, the valeta, St Bernard Waltz, military two step, cha cha cha, barn dance, cokey cokey, charlston etc - as well as some surprises, as usual, thrown in by DJ Lynne and Host Terry (and maybe even the odd party game and “in-house cabaret” act!). Plus, of course, a delicious buffet! The Party will also comprise some WW2 community singing and conclude with The Exhortation (as a mark of respect) and – now by tradition - with Land of Hope & Glory plus Vera Lynne's famous song We'll Meet Again!

Because there will be a fully licensed bar, own drinks can no longer be permitted as a Condition of our use of the premises.

With the price of tickets remaining STILL THE SAME as in previous years at just £15 per ticket, this represents excellent value for nearly four hours’ entertainment in a new exciting venue that is located very close to Pickering Showground with generous parking facilities, a good size dance floor, a great buffet and the added benefit of being entertained in a very friendly atmosphere!

So come in your uniforms and 1940’s attire (very important) and party with us ! !

You can even e-mail the Organisers in advance with your own ideas – or even to volunteer to do a cabaret act! – to: avaww2parties@outlook.com.

Tickets are available NOW direct from the Organisers by sending them a stamped/addressed envelope after calling 01751 432811 or e-mailing us (see above) for address details etc (payment by cheques only or direct into a bank account)

Kindly note that Pickering Tourist Information Centre is now closed and hence no longer selling tickets for the event as in the past with credit/debit card facilities.

Net proceeds will benefit again the Registered charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care – in 2015, a sum of £1,346.66 benefited this very worthy charity from our WW2 events.

Tickets £15 FREE parking Delicious buffet Licensed bar Fab WW2 dancing!

ONLY 13 TICKETS LEFT FOR SATURDAY NIGHT !
STILL PLENTY OF TICKETS LEFT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT !

LOST SPIVS CASE
My name is Dan Hyndman from Nottingham. I am in the throws of preparing all my kit for the new 1940s season, when I have discovered that I have apparently lost my Spivs Case. It is brown in colour the usual type of pressed cardboard with 2 metal latch type fasteners its about 16" long about 12 " inches wide & about 5 inches thick, the main thing inside it was some magicians tricks, (i used to be a Close up magician) a period 1940s ladies pink Corset & other 40s gear, I do quite a few Characters, so cannot remember the last time I used it, it is a nice quality dark brown case, not the normal cheap type of the 40s, I think I had it at Cosby in Leicestershire, but not sure. £25 reward. Can any one help me to get it back. 07973 722275 or 01949 829346 email hyndman999@btinternet.com
