Rauceby war years Weekend 2015
This is a three day event August 29th, 30th, 31st 2015
Looking for somewhere to go this Bank Holiday Weekend then look no further. Travel back in time to see & hear what your parents, Uncles,Aunts and Grandparents did:
The Rauceby War Weekend is holding their 7th War Years weekend on the above date this year. We are a non profit making event so any monies raised after expenses will go to the charities, Air Ambulance, Royal British Legion and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Please visit our website below to have a look at what it’s all about, It is also to help keep people informed or you can phone 01529 488354 or 07713074418 to get further advice. We have a large marquee booked to hold a 1940’s Victory Ball for three hundred people on Saturday night with the Ashby Big Band and supported by Paul & Melissa Harper with singer Heather Marie in attendance, Paul being an ENSA entertainer and all backed by Music host DJ Woody's War Dept. This is a ticket only dance. Tickets are £15. The entertainment on Friday and Sunday night is free. The marquee will also be used for various demonstrations like fashion shows, hair demonstrations (have your hair done 40’s style for the evening dance), and dancing lessons with “AirRaid Jive”etc.
We will be having living history displays, Re-enactors (people promenading in all sorts of different uniforms), and a large selection of Military vehicles and Classic cars with various stall holders Military & Civilian selling their wares to keep the public entertained. We are also having an arena where we will be having a staged battle each day (can be quite noisy), Vehicle parades (Military & Classic cars), Military band playing and demonstrations involving the public. The Battle of Britain memorial flight has been
applied for. We have plenty of entertainment for the children with an old fashioned funfair, and some participation events for them to join in like Grenade throwing and rifle cum boot camp drill.
There is plenty of food sold on site with a NAAFI selling homemade wartime type sandwiches and cakes (unfortunately not 1940’s prices). There is also a bar selling real ales amongst other drinks to help quench your thirst. If you purchase a ticket for the Saturday night you have the chance to purchase real Ale at wartime price of 6d/pint (must produce 6 old pennies).
Come along to SEE, FEEL, SMELL & HEAR as well as talk to the living history display personnel to get a feeling as to what it was like. The Entry fee is £6/person/day . Children who are 12 and under are free. Veterans and all car parking is free. We have plenty of camping for Tents, Caravans, Motor homes (Must be pre-booked. £5/night or £15 Max for 3 or 4 nights. You will also have to purchase your day tickets).Where else can you get all this entertainment for just £6 (On the Gate). You can pre book your tickets and get them at £5/person/day with either a two day pass (£10) or three day pass (£15). This is all educational to certain school children as they do the WW2 at school. So, dig out your outfits from the loft, get dressed up and come and be part of this grand event and help raise for the above charities whilst having fun. Once you have been to one you will want to attend more. I hope that you can support us in some way.

VE DAY 70TH AND BATTLE OF BRITAIN 75TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT & DANCE
Thinktank ( Birmingham Science Museum), Millennium Point,Curzon Street , Birmingham - Postcode: B4 7XG (West Midlands)
The Spitfire and Hurricane , two aircraft that will forever hold a very special place in the hearts and minds of the nation they helped save from the threat of German invasion in those dark days of WW2 in the summer of 1940.
75 years on a special concert and dance is being organized by Midlands vocalist and compare Gary Lewis to be held at the Birmingham Science Museum (thinktank) on Saturday the September 5th . The event will also coincide with the 70th anniversary of VE Day , 50 years since the death of Winston Churchill and what would have been Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday.
Gary Said "Did you know that Birmingham produced over 60% of all Spitfires built during the Second World War (at the Castle Bromwich works, now Jaguar). I thought it would be a fitting tribute in this anniversary year to
highlight not only the brave young airmen of the RAF , but also the workforce who assemble them . I hope to have a number of surviving RAF veterans and Castle Bromwich workforce personnel at the event as 'Guests Of Honour!".
The Castle Bromwich workforce (many of them women) worked day and night to supply 'The Few' as Winston Churchill would famously call them with new Spitfires . Although the Spitfire stole the limelight , it was the
rugged Hawker Hurricane that actually shot down more aircraft during the Battle Of Britain , something that's regularly forgotten or not always mentioned in the history books.
Gary said "The museums Hurricane will take centre stage along with the Spitfire that's on display , it was the perfect partnership, the Hurricane would deal with the slower bombers , whilst the more agile Spitfire would take on the formidable German fighter plane the Messerschmitt 109". Together the turned the tide of the battle inflicting the Germans first defeat and the postponement of the planned invasion" .
Concert goers will have the unique opportunity to dance under the museums Spitfire and Hurricane to the sound of Glenn Miller and listen to the songs of Frank Sinatra. There will also be band performances of famous movie themes such as ‘ Battle of Britain’and ‘Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines’
Gary said " This will probably be one of the last opportunities the City can say thank you to these people ,we need to while we still can.

A one off and unique opportunity to commemorate great moments and people in history and dance to the sound of Glenn Miller under the two aircraft that helped save the nation, the Spitfire and Hurricane.

HUGHENDEN'S WARTIME WEEKEND
Hughenden Manor, Buckinghamshire - Postcode: HP14 4LA (South East England)
EventPlan’s annual Home Front event at picturesque Hughenden, now increased in size and scope due to the popularity of previous shows! Staged on behalf of the National Trust and commemorating the Manor’s top secret war work and war effort in general, this year's main themes are the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 70th of victory over the Axis.

Enjoy music and song including by The Spitfires (Saturday), Marina Mae (Sunday) and Ricky Hunter (also on trumpet, both days); dancing demos and lessons by Chocsaway; skirmish and weapons firing; living history, military and civilian vehicles; Home Guard including a chance to have a go at soldiers' drill, the hilarious (and amazingly popular) Mr Punch versus Adolf Hitler, the story of the fall of France and Battle of Britain, the story and science of the Dam Busters, other talks and tours of the secret wartime manor. Plus recreated Air Ministry photo recce bunker. Also enjoy a fashion and lingerie show on Saturday.

This picturesque location was a centre for vital map making for crucial RAF air raids including the Dam Busters, the sinking of the Tirpitz and 70 years ago this year the bombing of Berchtesgarden. How very appropriate therefore that for the first time, the BBMF Lancaster Bomber will staging a spectacular flypast on Sunday, with a Spitfire or Hurricane on Saturday.

COLESHILL1940S DAY
Coleshill, Near Swindon - Postcode: SN6 7PT (South East England)
10am-5pm
Coleshill, near Swindon SN6 7PT (just off the B4019 between Faringdon and Highworth)
Admission £4 adult, £2 children (including National Trust members)

The family day will see wartime re-enactors giving firing demonstrations and there’ll be talks about 1940s life. Vintage cars and military vehicles will be on display and Coleshill’s original and replica Second World War bunkers will be opened to the public.

The National Trust’s maintenance team will give demonstrations and opportunities to have a go at traditional building skills such as dry stone-walling and there’ll be rural crafts such as wood-turning and lace-making.

In the Old Carpenter’s Yard, there will be a street party atmosphere with big band music, Morris dancers and old fashioned bunting. Coleshill Community Shop will serve teas and cakes and the local butcher will fire up his BBQ.

For children, there is camouflage face-painting, code-breaking and a children’s trail where they can learn all about Coleshill’s secret wartime past.

“We hope everyone will get into the spirit of the event by coming dressed in 1940s style clothes” says Richard Henderson, National Trust General Manager. “We’ll be awarding prizes for the best dressed visitors on the day”.

The National Trust Village of Coleshill near Swindon is recreating the festival atmosphere of a 1940s street party on Sunday 20 September 2015 to celebrate the village’s vital wartime role.
The day commemorates and celebrates the work of Churchill’s underground army of resistance fighters, trained in Coleshill to be the last line of resistance in the event of enemy invasion. Around 3000 Auxiliers were trained in spy techniques in Coleshill’s bunkers and even local villagers didn’t know they were there.

VINTAGE SPORTS CAR FESTIVAL
Snetterton Circuit - Postcode: NR16 2JU (East Midlands)
The Vintage Sports-Car Club made their first foray to Norfolk in 2012, with an event on the 2 mile Snetterton '200' circuit. The VSCC was formed in 1934 with a cut-off date of vehicles manufactured by 1931 and you will see many fine vintage cars, plus a lot of post-vintage thoroughbreds - cars built between 1931 and 1940 but adhering to earlier standards - plus the best post-war cars such as the Grand Prix and sports racing cars of the 1950s.
With a huge entry list expected this weekend, 90 years of the Austin 7 will be celebrated, as well as the 50th running of the club's Spero and Voiturette Trophy Race for small capacity cars.
Pre 1931 racers will contest the illustrious Vintage Seaman Trophy, featuring a 24 litre Napier Bentley, amongst Morgan three wheelers, and 1950s Sports Racing Cars will recall the legendary Autosport 3 Hour Races. Also from that decade will be 500cc Formula 3 racers.
Don't miss a nostalgic throwback to a glorious bygone era!

LIVE MUSIC
To help put you in the vintage spirit, The Ashby Big Band will be playing sets throughout the day. The band is one of the best Glenn Miller/Swing When You're Winning tribute bands in the country.

DOVE HOUSE HOSPICE - 1940S BLITZ BALL
Fort Paull, East Yorkshire - Postcode: HU12 8FP (Yorkshire and the Humber)
Polish your medals, pencil on those stockings and pin up your victory curls. This will be a night to remember of British wartime revelry and 40s glamour, uniquely set behind the walls of Fort Paull. Guests can explore 500 years of history within the walls of this superb Napoleonic fortress with magnificent views over the Humber estuary, whilst enjoying exhibits such as the world's only surviving Blackburn Beverley Aircraft.

Once we batten down the hatches, enjoy an evening of rousing wartime sing-alongs, Swing dance performances and a deliciously themed menu courtesy of our friends, Hull Pie. Our menu is typically 40s style, embracing the "make do and mend" attitude that made this country great:

Glass of wartime fruit punch on arrival
Starter: Soldiers Soup
Main Course: Churchill's roast chicken and stuffing pie served with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy (vegetarian option available)
Desert: Duke pudding
Tea, coffee and chocolates

Dress code is strictly 1940s military and glamour - think pin curl and peek-a-boo bang hairstyles, sharp suits, land girls and uniform. Our No. 87 Vintage Dove House Hospice Shop located at Newland Avenue, Hull is the perfect place to source all of your 1940s inspired fashion needs at low budget prices!

With lots of 40s style entertainment on the evening including a raffle, games and an auction, we hope that you can join us in this once in a lifetime experience, raising invaluable funds for Dove House Hospice, a charity based in Hull.

A night of British wartime revelry and 40s glamour set behind the walls of Fort Paull.

Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October 2015
7.30pm to 11pm (Doors Open 6.30pm)

If you want great fun – this is definitely the place to come! But there are only now tickets left for our Friday night show !

DJ Lynne and Host Terry are presenting another of their popular nostalgic Parties of music and fun from WW2 Years in Wrelton Village Hall (2 miles from Pickering). Whilst the event will include original soundtrack reflections of selected events from those WW2 years and in particular VE Day celebrations this year, the main focus will be Party Fun and Dancing to your favourite music of this era that will include waltzes, foxtrots, swing, jitterbug, the valeta, St Bernard Waltz, military two step, cha cha cha, barn dance, cokey cokey, charlston etc - as well as some surprises, as usual, thrown in by DJ Lynne and Host Terry (and maybe even the odd party game!).

Plus, of course, a delicious buffet! The Party will also comprise some WW2 community singing and conclude with The Exhortation (as a mark of respect) and - by tradition - with Land of Hope & Glory plus Vera Lynne's famous song We'll Meet Again!

There will be a limited licensed bar (excluding spirits) - own drinks are optional (for own consumption only)!

At just £15 per ticket (no price increase), this represents excellent value for three and a half hours’ entertainment in a warm traditional local village hall that has reasonable parking facilities, a good dance floor, a great buffet and the added benefit of being entertained in a very friendly atmosphere! Many will be meeting here again after many previous years’ highly enjoyable experiences – so come in your uniforms and 1940’s attire (very important) and party with us ! ! You can now e-mail the Organisers in advance with your own ideas to avaww2parties@outlook.com.

Tickets for our Friday night show ONLY are available from the Pickering Tourist Information Centre - which will accept credit/debit cards (subject to a handling charge) – by calling 01751 473791. Early advanced booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

LOST SPIVS CASE
My name is Dan Hyndman from Nottingham. I am in the throws of preparing all my kit for the new 1940s season, when I have discovered that I have apparently lost my Spivs Case. It is brown in colour the usual type of pressed cardboard with 2 metal latch type fasteners its about 16" long about 12 " inches wide & about 5 inches thick, the main thing inside it was some magicians tricks, (i used to be a Close up magician) a period 1940s ladies pink Corset & other 40s gear, I do quite a few Characters, so cannot remember the last time I used it, it is a nice quality dark brown case, not the normal cheap type of the 40s, I think I had it at Cosby in Leicestershire, but not sure. £25 reward. Can any one help me to get it back. 07973 722275 or 01949 829346 email hyndman999@btinternet.com
